The Next Wave

May 25th 2014

Some quick news on some projects we haven’t spoke about before. Simply add these to the existing list of upcoming movies from AClique. We begin with the news that work on ‘Sleeping Pretty’ began this month. Katrina Foley, Angela Carew and Michael O’Callaghan are joined by a few new performers in a comedy about the caring side of love. AClique doing a love story? You bet however it is a love story told in AClique’s own inimitable style. We’ll be posting some more details on this production as we get further along into it.

Our action movie ‘Smith’ has a finished script and is set to shoot this summer. What can the audience expect? Well, how does a new breed of action hero sound? An action hero you’ve not seen dish out the pain in our previous work? The action in particular has a lot of new stuff we are willing to take a risk on and this excites the bejeezus out of us.

Now we come to our documentary with Bruce Coleman as the star. We finished shooting this quirky piece on Wednesday the 21st May. We cannot wait to show you this movie as it is a genre we haven’t tackled before, well it is however not to be screened in the format we will be showing it this year. What is it? Well, life is all about evolution so this movie is an evolution of many of our existing movies in a genre we normally do not do. However it is filled with our humour, talent and hard work so rest assured you’ll be seeing something completely “Unique to AClique”. Some very funny stuff.

So that is all for now. The other projects are still in development and these are only a handful of the projects we are lugging around in our large sacks.

Some News and RTE

March 18th 2014

After the fastest Christmas in recent memory we all set about dreaming and writing the next crop of AClique productions. A slew of new ideas and alternative ways to shoot them, for us at least, are all part of the attraction in getting these projects made. But first we have some very significant news regards the acronym in the article headline.

The Stranger, the western written and directed by Jason is being broadcast by RTE as part of their Short Screen program. Jason broke the news to us recently and we are very happy to see the movie seen by a large audience on the national television station. Details of the broadcast date and time will be revealed shortly so for more news on the subject keep an eye on the AClique Facebook page, The Stranger Facebook page and this very website.

Jason has begun rehearsing Disposed with Nick and Pat as the leads. The script has some really good gags and a nice sense of humour. Pat and Nick have been bouncing off each other in rehearsals and the chemistry is already there.

The weather really has been unfriendly to film making in recent months. We managed to shoot the 25 minute follow up to I Think I’m A Racist in January. Newcomer Jillian Ryan joined Nick, Bruce and Kevin in a tale about romance and magic. Jason popped up to play the lad’s best friend who they are concerned has been adversely affected by the new woman in his life. We also had Ally Futto play an intimidating and mysterious customer who conjures all manner of problems for Bruce’s ‘Pops’ character. The cast and crew caught the finished movie recently. One person remarked, “It is pretty good.”

Another movie we recently completed was The Curse. This movie looks at alcohol consumption in a different way and has Michael, Pat and Jason play friends who love a good night out with as much liquid refreshment as one can possibly have. Vita Klaro helped out on this, her second role after her performance in The Lickerman and she nailed it including the destruction of some limited props. Shane O’Brien returned to perform with us and we had a great time working with him again. We already have a few scripts ready to rock with him in mind.

Michael is penning a very funny script about a team of crack pot crack shot hunters inspired by our many conversations he interrupts with notions of apparent insider knowledge. The stuff he is coming up with is nuts particularly one story that shared many if not all key plot points from Star Wars. He is performing in Kevin’s upcoming movie and having read the script we can safely say it is a departure from our usual unusual fare.

All that remains to be said is we are looking forward to getting stuck into our new projects.

Christmas

December 24th 2013

Been a hectic few days getting our latest movie together. Late on a cold December night, the 19th in fact, we gathered to start work on Merry Christmas Tommy which historically marks it as our first Christmas movie. Taking the role of Santa is Jason Woodard who has a rather aggressive enemy angry at him called Tommy played by Liam Óg Griffin. This was another significant event as the two lads had last fought each other in our 2010 action comedy Cop Story. It was an emotional reunion as Liam delivered a few of his lines in the same way he did in Cop Story. The shoot began at 11:30pm and we were packed up by 3:30am. It was cold but a lot of fun. Cian, Nathalie and Katrina were on production duties sorting out costumes, props and make up. The shoot went without a hitch except when Liam did a forward roll cracking his head off the concrete floor. Liam, like his character Tommy, is bulletproof so shrugged it off between bouts of blurred vision.

The editing and music took two days to put together. The sound in particular is quite complex featuring dozens and dozens of sound effects. Cian took over for the visual fx and created some brilliant muzzle flares and lighting effects for the action packed second phase of the movie.

Festive Production

November 30th 2013

Work has begun on a couple of movies to be shot during the Christmas festive season. CURSED is a strange tale of friendship and alcohol. Mike, Pat and Jason play the parts of three friends who find themselves in a mysterious situation that may well put their friendship to the ultimate test. Rehearsals begin next week.

Already well into rehearsals the Voodoo themed movie is going extremely well. The cast are creating some magic with their performances thus far.

We’ll be turning our attention to a few drama oriented movies. Oh the humanity. We don’t do these movies often so it will be interesting to blow the cobwebs off our emotional faculties.

Expect updates on production and more news when we get it.

Writing. Shooting. Sketching. Drooling?

November 9th 2013

November. Where has the year gone? Since the last AClique Event we’ve been busy putting together the components for the next batch of AClique movies.

Warren has been writing a whole series of sketches and shorts full of original ideas amongst his other writing. Add to this his recent camera operating and we shall see his more surreal scripts look unreal. For some of the sketches he teamed up with Michael and the results are quite good in this scribe’s humble opinion.

Kevin has penned the blackest of black comedies in what is a funny story about a terrible act. This should be a fun movie to shoot and plans are already afoot to get it done. Together with this darkly humourous tale are Kevin’s other works, one helluva horror script and some crazy comedies.

Jason proposed the idea of shooting a horror movie for Halloween. So we did. The Lickerman is the result and it must be said it is a rather odd movie. It certainly leaves an impression and is a rather visually driven piece featuring the obscure lingo Esperanto. AClique regulars Jason, Pat, Kevin, Cian, Adam and Will were joined by Chloe Sweeney and Vita Klaro, both on their debuts. Warren and Cian captured the action having previously done so excellently on MAX.

Next up will be a voodoo themed movie with the working title Voodoo. It features existing characters from a previous AClique movie with a few additions to spice up the mix. Rehearsals are already underway and are going swimmingly. And there is also a script called Bananas that is, well, bananas.

There is some extremely fun and creative stuff on the way. We look forward to making them and best of all showing them to our audience.

AClique Premiere 2013 Report

September 13th 2013

Sunday the 8th was quite the day for all of us at AClique. All Ireland FInal day was exciting and a great example of the sport of Hurling. We watched the game from start to finish wrapped up in the tension, drama and sheer spectacle of the fastest field game on earth.

But before that we managed to brave the lovely autumnal weather and catch our very own screening of our latest work with many of our family and friends. We watched the show from start to finish wrapped up in the tension, drama and sheer spectacle of the fastest film makers on earth. It was a delight filled day, the amount of smiles exceeded the number of faces present, figure that one out. One of our very own Tom White put pen to paper to share his thoughts on the day. So, take it away Tom.

“Sitting down in Screen One of the Gate Cinema last Sunday morning for the annual AClique Premiere, I realised something: I had no idea what to expect from AClique Productions this year. Sure, I helped bloody up a few people for WAB and The Stranger, but due to many different factors (planning for a wedding, trying not to warp the mind of an eight year old too much, ......... the unpleasantness) my involvement with AClique this year was minimal, not like previous years where I contributed those epic additions to vampire movie canon, Mother and Father. So yeah, I went in relatively clean, much like the rest of the audience. And, much like the rest of the audience, my mind was blown.”

“Now, I've known the lads since the beginning well before AClique was a glimmer in Donal, Jay, and Kev's eye, and it was easy to see then the talent bubbling beneath the surface. Over the years they have brought like minded people into the fold, complementing each others talents perfectly and helping everybody grow as people and film makers. This year was one of their best yet, their evolution evident on the big screen. So, what is their secret? Simple, friendship. AClique is made of friends who motivate, frustrate (a much better form of motivation if you ask me), and support each other, recognising their strengths and playing to them, making for better movies every year.  The only way for AClique from here is up, and I for one can't wait to see what happens.”

Thanks Tom for that lovely piece. I’d like to add to that the importance of the team in making all these movies. Without them nothing happens. Their talent, skill and desire to create good movies has continued to fuel AClique with an overwhelming need to improve our productions. There are props, costumes, locations, music, sound, CGi, casting and transport that are as important as writing, directing, editing and shooting the scripts. The finished result is often an unfair representation of the sheer amount of effort put in at all levels. There is no doubt it can be taken for granted and compared to movies with budgets, large crews and years more experience. And I actively encourage such comparisons as without these criticisms levied upon our work we would never advance as film makers.

Thanks to Julia Shnappy for the decent photos from the day.

We thanked all those present on the day for their continued support in our ambitious trek through movies with entertaining examples of our work. For those of you not present on the day thank you also for being bang on kind hearted types and we hope to see you to show you at our next screening.

Before the event we were on RED Fm promoting the Premiere with particular emphasis on The Stranger. Fair play to Vic Barry for letting us into the studio. Top man.

We have already begun work on our next bunch of movies and can assure you there are things in these upcoming projects never seen before in AClique’s repertoire of film making techniques. The excitement is barely containable given the challenge these new productions hold however with a team as awesome as the members of AClique it will be a whole lot of fun.

AClique Premiere 2013

August 31st 2013

Only 8 days until the AClique Premiere 2013.

www.facebook.com/events/475019955929293/

Some people say time flies. We include ourselves in such a group and also the group who think this summer’s weather in Ireland was wonderful. This year we have more movies on show than previous years. In fact, we even have movies we have had to leave out due to the running time of the event so we’ll have to organise another event for those. We're pretty excited about the show as it has been a long time in gestation, perhaps even more excited than usual. Some new things have been attempted and added to the AClique production process many of which can be seen onscreen on the day. And heard. New actors, new cameras and new hairstyles. Many of you know some of the movies from the updates and images peppered across the web including Facebook and this very site. However this year we've had exposure on some movie websites such as the IFTN and other mainstream media such as the Cork News. The striking photo of The Stranger stood looking from a great distance is particularly impressive, snapped by Cian Murphy who also excelled with the poster design (above) this year.

Credit must also go to Jason and Pat for promoting The Stranger and attracting a lot of attention to the movie itself and also to the AClique team.

http://filmireland.net/2013/08/30/aclique-short-film-screenings/

Special mention to the team involved on all of the shoots. Kevin, Michael, Cian, Adam, Nathalie, Warren, Katrina, Tom, Liane, Will, Vita, Marc, Nick, Angela, Colum and Bruce were heavily involved in the production part of the process. The movies could not be made without their input. Particularly Kevin, Michael and Cian who were present on practically every shoot this year. It has to be stated the overall team’s work ethic and attitude on set for all of the movies was second to none. It is rather heartwarming and surreal at times making movies with such brilliant people. Thank you AClique.

The variety on show this year is very good. Our most varied perhaps. How often does one see a Western, a Sci Fi Actioner, Kung Fu Comedy, Heroic Bloodshed Actioner, Silent Movie and a bunch of comic sketches in one sitting? Although it sounds like an average night's TV viewing with an ADD sufferer after commandeering the remote we can guarantee it will be just as entertaining.

The event as usual is free so please be advised you may want to get there on time to take your place in one of the 250 seats available. Popcorn and general movie watching fuel will be available to purchase from the Gate Cinema shop. Try not to chew so loud.

Lots more news on the way.

Is that the finishing line...?

June 20th 2013

Now members of the team who have finished college and are clutching their results we can resume the high speed production style again. The finishing touches are being applied to our latest crop of movies. These are significantly heavier on Cgi and special effects than previous movies hence the extra week or two on post production. This is very rewarding work and often involves the invention of new techniques which in turn promote ideas for future projects. As we push our movies filling them with more complex scenarios it is inevitable the challenge increases also. So the forever glamorous world of visual effects looks like this.

One thing we noticed is how action and drama oriented the latest movies are. So we are now shooting some sketches to lighten the mood for the next Premiére. Our previous Rough Sketch Show was warmly received so we aim to follow that up with even more zany observations on what makes life worth laughing. Dónal, Kevin, Mike and Tom have sketches ready to shoot so perhaps they’ll make it through unscathed.

Tentative line up for this year is DEADLY RIVALS 3, THE ROUGH SKETCH SHOW, CRUNCH, WAB and THE STRANGER. We have a few other movies waiting in the wings and these are close to completion. Adam is working on a very interesting project so there shall be a quick sample of his work on the day. The audience as usual can expect the unexpected from our latest work and no doubt will leave the cinema entertained.

So when is the Premiére happening? We haven’t picked an exact date as of yet due to cast and crew being elsewhere at different times. When we have it confirmed we’ll make it known.

Next Up CRUNCH

March 16th 2013

Our latest short movie DEADLY RIVALS 3 has been warmly received by those lucky enough to see it. A comedy with more than it’s fair share of laughs it deals with the sacrifice one may have to make to become part of society. One particular high point was the climactic showdown involving Kevin and Warren going toe to toe for the first time. Warren did a great job in his first full on action role with Kevin proving more than a match for Warren’s irrepressible technique. It is always a good sign of a movie when people think it is shorter than it is. Time flies when having fun. The most difficult part of production was in the editing. There was so much golden material being wrestled with that didn’t make the cut.

Some Updates

The Stranger is getting a very special soundtrack composed by a top class composer. We’re very excited about this and Jason will be meeting him really soon to sit down and jam a little over the tone he feels the movie needs. The movie looks beautiful already thanks to the General Cinematic team, Ian D.Murphy and Fergus Long who did such a great job. The fire scene in particular is striking. On the day itself which was one of the coldest of 2012 the production team worked like a well oiled machine. We didn’t skip a beat. The credits on the movie will inform as to who did what with the images onscreen as further proof of the labour.

What can we say about Deadly Rivals 3? Not much really. We could tell you it is not a drama, it is not a comedy, it is not a horror, it is not a love story and it is not an action movie. If we did that then we would be fibbing. Conceived by Donal via Facebook chat with Kevin this movie is a spiritual successor to MOTDTKDIBTTDABA 2. The fun we had making Deadly Rivals 3 was immense. All the acting talent in AClique took the screen in a madcap tale of secret societies and the struggles one man has to get into to get into such institutions. Warren had his first fight scene and capably man handled Kevin in a fight for the ages.

Will Browne and Marc Redmond square off in CRUNCH. A sci fi action short from Donal sees some rather strange events force an ordinary mechanic into saving the world as we love it. Cian, Kevin and Donal have been doing some fx tests and are confident in upping the ante on yet another AClique styled actioner.

DISPOSED. Jason has crafted a nice comic short in which he will direct and star along with Pat Fitz. The poster in particular is very good and serves as a clue as to what happens in the movie. The script is very funny and knowing Pat and Jason’s real life chemistry one can be sure to expect the unexpected.

Michael O’Callaghan turned in a rather excellent script called HANGOUT. A college set comedy that explores the lengths a student will go to in order to have his life on easy street within the tight rules of education.

WITH A BANG is a bloody action movie with some new production design and special effects that is set to raise the bar with what AClique have done with action in the past. An action short, they are what our audience like and what we like to make, this sees some new talent join us in a heroic bloodshed movie that aims to blow the head off anybody who sees it.

There are many other projects on the way. Kevin is working on a few scripts, Warren has two, Jason has a web series and Donal has too many to know what to do with. All in good time.

Premiére is being planned so a lot of work to do. Exciting times.

Next On The AClique Agenda

November 11th 2012

A decent crowd showed up for the second screening of AClique’s work in 2012. Among the movies was Warren’s Easily Lost. The movie went down a treat with the audience with many a laugh shared and maybe a tear shed too in the bittersweet conclusion to his Webster trilogy. Not one to hang around Warren has already started work on his next project.

Rehearsals are well underway for Jason’s movie The Stranger. A rather ambitious script has AClique turn it’s attention to the genre our dad’s grew up loving, the Western. Six shooters, saddles, horses and ten gallon hats. Going to be a lot of fun creating this movie and already the excitement from cast and grew is intense. The rehearsals are going great with Pat Fitz, Conor Slattery, Conor Dwane and Kevin O’Sullivan playing the roles of three cowboys and a stranger. Positivity abounds.

Tom White has been working on the sequel to Father and has promised a surprise or two in that. He is also collaborating with Darragh Keating on a dramatic piece so knowing the relationship these guys have it will be a good movie.

Production has dropped in scale as some of the team are back in college/school. This has been seen as a perfect opportunity to look into areas of film making demanding meticulous attention to detail. With sequels to Cop Story, Vicious and Father lined up the demand to use these techniques to progress in production values is very high.

Premiére 2012

October 5th 2012

While many slept on a mild Sunday morning a few made the effort to see our latest movies Premiére at The Gate Cinema in Cork city. These early risers were rewarded with a few leaps in production values and a whole lot of laughs. Some chills too. The show started shortly after half past eleven with the well received The Time Rascals. This movie has a unique visual style mimicking the old movies from the nineteen twenties. A comedy featuring a duo of time travellers and a delightful blonde, it demands to be seen more than once.

Adam screened a new trailer with the updated visuals from A Question Of God. This highly anticipated slice of Sci Fi will be visible at a future AClique event. It looks great already. The trailer at 35 seconds was brief but certainly gave a taste of things to come. We’re excited at what Adam has done in terms of visuals all on his own. Great work.

Much anticipated and warmly received was Father, the follow up to Mother. Featuring most of the AClique members in acting roles the movie nailed a sense of comedy and tragedy with the difficulties in family outweighing the benefits of vampirism.

Oddest movie of the day has to be Grrrls. Featuring dialogue that makes no sense and aggressive females throwing all sorts of poses in front a mal-e-brained fella with a final scene never seen, or understood, before, a head scratcher if ever there was one. So much so it has affected this writer’s own writing. Very colourful though with great performances all round.

The show finished with Vicious. Shot in under thirty hours and the most violent movie AClique have yet produced, this movie certainly caught a lot of people by surprise. A heavy mix of societal commentary blended with visceral action staining the tapestry of human co-dependency in a time where the restriction of society and the security it offers no longer exist. Pretty much a brutal actioner with some great performances.

Premiére 2012

August 25th 2012

Facebook was the venue for the announcement of the AClique Premére 2012. The event, to be held at the ever popular The Gate Cinema, has become a regular showcase of our work at AClique. The anticipation and excitement beforehand are always incredible and the day is one of the highlights of our year.

So, what can the audience expect? The usual unusual. We got a Vampire movie, a Dramedy, Zombie movie, Animation, Rough Sketch Show 2 and a few comedies among other surprises even to us. This involves the shooting of additional content this coming week for the show. The desire to improve the productions has seen an even tighter efficacy throughout the production process however the increase in quality does take time, the deadline we work to certainly has the right effect of delivering the goods.

The last event saw the cinema filled comfortably. This was only after we declined tickets to a lot of people. The demand is great, everybody wants to bring a group of friends to see themselves onscreen, the last event had close to a thousand people look for two hundred and fifty tickets. We have a primary obligation to facilitate the cast, crew and people who helped in achieving the completion of the movies. They have been invited. Numbers are tight. Again, we are sorry to disappoint anybody who can’t get a ticket.

So outside of this how do you get a ticket? How do you get tickets? There is a Facebook Event page, link is here https://www.facebook.com/events/278070265631255/ . Also, contact/message the AClique Facebook Page and tell us a little bit about why you want to see it. That way we can give those who want to see it the most a better chance to attend compared to those who are just curious or have a free Sunday morning.

Keep an eye on the site and stay up to date on the proceedings.

And The Show Goes On

August 4th 2012

Now things are shaping up nicely for the upcoming Premiere. Vicious is having the sound and music design finalised and the movie has a rather ambitious intro sequence. It is thanks to some new technology and programs Donal got to grips with. Cian did some great Fx compositing recently for the film and it is looking rather violent so be warned. The remaining Vicious story is very large so the scale and scope will be a challenge to achieve. We wouldn’t be doing it if it was easy. There are some very intriguing concepts in the story that demand to be continued in further movies in the future.

Warren is completing Easily Lost over the next few weeks and has the footage shot already edited. Kevin has stepped up to take care of some of the camera duties so the finished movie will look pretty good with Adam B, Warren and Kevin’s eye framing the action.

Kevin has a rather different movie lined up really soon. Donal is helping realise the vision by adding visual elements to the story utilising some recently acquired props. Kevin is using his love of horror to generate an atmosphere befitting the story. The location is perfect for the story that is sure to raise a few smiles.

Grrrls is another short movie starring a bunch of the girls and Michael in which some odd people do some odd things. Katrina said upon reading the script it reminded her of an Ionesco play. That can’t be bad.

The Rough Sketch Show will get a new episode shot over the next couple of weeks. So many sketches. So very many sketches.

And that is it for now. More North East West South as soon as we get some.

AClique Activity

June 2nd 2012

It has been six weeks since the last news update. A lot of work has been completed since then. MAX went down a treat with our stateside chums. The comments left were quite complimentary, insulting, informed and relevant. For those who know of the heroic bloodshed genre that inspired the Max Payne video games the obvious non reloading nature of the movie was well received. There are some ideas about what video game to tackle next and one in particular really suits our style.

Katrina directed NOTHING PERSONAL, a script written a while back by Donal. Kev was camera operator, Donal & Warren helped with sound while Jason performed as the businessman opposite Katrina’s lady of the night. The shoot went very well and is currently being edited by Kevin which will be ready in time for the next Premiére.

And now to FATHER. The creative process on this movie has been fun and involved a lot of work. Tom had delivered a few drafts of the script after some story and character recommendations from Donal & Jason. Tom returned with some of the changes including some that weren’t welcome. Jason then turned his hand to the ending after Tom felt it wasn’t right. This version had a brilliant final action scene and a very callous treatment of one of the main characters. Needless to say the controversy affected the momentum of the production and the executive producer wasn’t satisfied with it. Finally Donal took the script and rewrote crucial aspects of the plot to set a rather nice considered finale in keeping with the overall tone from the first movie that evolves during Father. There are little touches he added to the entire script that make sense of the characters motivations and behaviours indicative of the characters personalities. Some incredible locations and inspiring performances in the rehearsals made the writing of the latest draft very rewarding. The new draft was well received by all so the renewed positivity and rekindled desire to get the movie made returned overwhelmingly. Adam has taken the role of Vincent, the father of the title and has brought his amazing sense of timing to the proceedings resulting in many crack ups at the read throughs. Pat has a part that will be revealed in the coming production. It is a secret. Cian is taking over camera duties on FATHER and this will be his second time operating on a movie with us.

Adam has been busy on all sorts. Lately he has been completing his CGi sci fi short A QUESTION OF GOD. His progress is good. We’re all really looking forward to seeing the finished piece however we have nothing new to show you in terms of screenshots or production development. He has teamed up with Warren to shoot the latest in Warren’s EASILY series, EASILY LOST. Warren and his crew have been ploughing away through the scenes and from what info we have gleaned it looks like another great tale in the series. Kevin also has helped out on various production positions.

There are a few other scripts and sketches that will be revealed at the Premiére so keep your eyes peeled for a few shots here and there.

MAX & Vicious

April 20th 2012

Plans are afoot to finish the visual fx and sound design on Max this very weekend. Cian will be assisted by Max director Donal in delivering a shed load of bullet hits, dust, flares and charges to the screen. Already the short movie has the look of a classic action movie from the 90’s and the video game it takes it’s inspiration from. Careful consideration in choosing the right fx thereby not resorting to the overused variety lead to Donal & Cian trawling through a bunch of real gunshots to see how the movie can do things a little differently. They saw some pretty impressive examples of gunfire, Russia has some crazy guys. On the subject of sound design and music Donal has been composing quite a lot lately even though he was deep in production with Vicious.  The goal is to deliver a percussion and guitar heavy cinematic action score with more than a gentle nod to the Max Payne franchise.

At the helm Vicious director Donal has some words on his latest work.

“Vicious has completed shooting. Four days shooting. A total of thirty five hours. A brilliant cast and crew coupled with an incredible location rewarded the production with some of the most striking imagery AClique have captured yet. Katrina, Bruce, Michael and Marc did themselves proud in an acting tour de force. Whiskey Delta were on hand in a particularly fun scene to shoot. Thanks to these guys we got a great sequence on day one that sets the tone for the second half of the movie. Michael did some great work in that scene. Day two was a mixture of dialogue, sex scene followed by action as Marc’s character unleashed his feet of fury on the bad guys. Night time struck the set on day three as another dialogue scene in which Bruce as Dr.Cole enlightened Sam, played by Katrina, on some of the ways the world works. On day four we shot a chase scene, death scene and the final fight.  Particular mention has to go to Jason as assistant director, brilliant job man, who now, a week later still has bruises the size of dinner plates all over his body. That Marc can hit hard. I had asked for a lot more realism in the fight scene compared to what we normally do which required my choreography to be quite violent. Thus the full contact approach to 90% of the action. The fight looks painful and upon speaking to Jason and Marc a few days after it is still painful. Will Browne helped a lot providing some good safety gear for the fight. Those of you with eagle eyes will spot him & Kevin early on in the movie.”

“Make up artists Lianne and Dee were the darlings of the set with their skill. Jaw dropping make up fx and the sheer artistry they exhibited will be seen in all of the HD goodness onscreen. There is a huge temptation to show images of their work but as it is early days yet I’ll have to hold on. We got great blood and scarring, bruises and sick looking moments. Thank you ladies. Cian was on props and as usual handled the job with ease. He also took some pretty cool photos on the day. The sound sounds sweet thanks to Warren & Jason handling sound duties with aplomb over the course of the shoot. We had a great time on this movie due to your hard work, ambition and attitude. Couldn’t have done it without you. Thank you all. So now time to turn my attention to Crunch, a lighter, funnier and more fx heavy action comedy with even more stuff to learn in making it. That is all for now, more closer to the release dates.”

Max will be released next week. The next AClique Premiére is scheduled for June.

Coming Soon

March 17th 2012

We put in a long evening putting the final visual edit of MAX together. It flows nicely and has a dramatic moment or two. Jason began the initial edit and Donal completed it with a polish on a directors cut John Woo would be proud of. For those of you interested John Woo had to submit Hard Target to the MPAA eight times before he could get a rating. Thankfully we have no need to compromise on MAX.

Next step will have Cian handle the visual effects of which there is a lot. Then it will be sound design and music. Explosive, tense, dark and exciting are the words heard in constant mantra on the composer’s lips. The movie currently weighs in at a brisk ten minutes. Ordinarily we would have a short like MAX completed in a week but we are working on other things, among them Vicious and Crunch. Vicious begins shooting on the 24th March with our friends at Whiskey Delta reuniting with us to shoot a rather powerful scene. We are looking forward to meeting up with our partners in arms again and we have something pretty awesome planned to work with these guys later on this year.

Vicious is a movie we’ve all been anticipating to be a great experience. It will feature some regular cast members in unusual roles and pit them against some rather extraordinary adversaries. We’re excited to shoot this movie as it will contain the longest action scene we’ve made yet. It will be extremely violent, this one is not for the family and kids, this is the movie we promised to the guys who wanted a longer fight scene in Short Story. Trust in us, we’re going to go all out in crafting this conflict so after witnessing it words will not be enough to describe it. We’ll have more to report on as soon as we finish Vicious.

Crunch is next on Donal’s list to direct. He also revised his Nothing Personal script which joins his four other projects he aims to shoot this year.

Warren completed a first draft on his next movie. Already the signs are within the script for another great chapter in Webster’s life.

Coming from the pen of Tom White comes a sequel to Mother. Father is on the final furlong and already potential actors are being considered. Director, Camera Op and Producers are already constructing the production.

News on Max & Vicious

March 12th 2012

The response to the Max teaser trailer was overwhelmingly positive. Thanks to all who commented and complimented our efforts. We’ve been beavering away at getting the movie finished. Initial edit went very smoothly with some complex editing required to get the action to flow in a rhythm the audience can follow. Trust us, no shaky cam or extreme close ups, just good old fashioned gunplay and fisticuffs.

Music and sound design are already underway. Max will feature a completely new musical direction for AClique which uses many of the innovations used in scoring movies in the 90’s. The sound design will have it’s work cut out to match the scale of the action as there is a helluva lot of gunfire and bullet hits to fight for space with the music on the soundtrack. The aural onslaught that was experienced in last years Dance Story will be surpassed by Max.

The editing is nearing completion and then it is off for colour grading and visual fx. Some new visual flair necessary to separate the fx reused in Max from prior AClique movies is implemented thanks to a new hand handling the fx. We’re really looking forward to releasing this and aim to entertain with a shotgun blast of AClique action.

And what of Vicious? Rehearsals begin tomorrow with Bruce, Michael, Katrina, Jason, Kevin and Donal at the AClique office. We got a comfy new couch and the performers are going to love reading their lines about love, guts and a dystopian future while their posteriors appreciate the leather supporting them. The make up tests have been great, the temptation to go nuts and lose track of the initial art direction is ever present. Don’t worry, we’re on track and will deliver a movie so full of heart stopping action it demands a defibrillator at the first screening. It is our most ambitious project yet and we can’t wait to start shooting. For now, have a look at some of the concept art from December 2011.

MAX news

February 21st 2012

We had great craic shooting the MAX movie last Saturday. We got a few new faces onscreen with Pat Fitz taking the role of the villain Montoya. Katrina Foley was the damsel in distress Vavianne with Donal playing Max. The heavies were played by Damien, Jason, Kevin, Ian and Michael. On camera duties were Warren and Cian who did a great job operating under Donal’s direction.

The story is inspired by the trailer of the upcoming game Max Payne 3 however some extra liberties were taken to create a story arc to suit the short nature of the movie. In it Montoya has pitted a rival ganglord against Montoya’s best friend by kidnapping his best friend’s wife. Max has been hired to bring the girl back alive but uncovers the conspiracy against his boss, perhaps too late.

The movie itself is a homage to the action cinema, primarily the Heroic Bloodshed genre popularised in Hong Kong cinema with movies like Hard Boiled, Bullet In The Head, Full Contact, the A Better Tomorrow series and John Woo’s american action classic Hard Target. A very brutal and edgy action scene sees Max take apart Montoya’s henchmen in a hail of bullets, blood and hand to hand fight scenes. The lads at AClique are old hands at action and have created some exciting action for this project. The intention was to create something as a standalone movie, inspired by but create a blow by blow copy of the source material. A re-imagining of Max Payne in another way. The movie was very last minute in preparation and credit has to go to the team involved for their eagerness to shoot quickly.

So...where have you been?

February 2nd 2012

Talk of the Apocalypse, Armageddon and Alien Invasion should be on the lips of every man, woman & child right now yet the words are absent. Why is that? I have a theory but that can wait. It has affected the posting of news on this website to be fair. Yes really. The whole dystopia we are experiencing over the last while, low funds, no money and not a copper to our name (all the same but this really affects us) has led to the creation of our next project, Vicious, a very violent and serious action movie. We are currently in week two of the pre production meeting with actors, stuntmen and make up artists. The team is very excited at this movie, a big leap in production values and the sheer scale of the production will impress the audience as much as the action, which is VERY special. There will be guns, knives, hatchets, hammers and some incredible boot work being delivered by one of our close friends. We’ll keep ye posted.

Recently we travelled to Killarney to shoot a movie called Harmony. Small crew, Jason, Donal and Cian who doubled as actor. Katrina Foley and newcomer Nathalie Tobin impressed us by braving the windswept environment without a word of complaint. The shoot went very well, the wind was an issue as it was very inconsistent. The movie is complete and edited including FX work of which there was a lot. Cian did a great job putting the effects together, a very talented guy is our Cian. There will be a chance to see Harmony in our next screening which is nicely revealed after the next paragraph.

A few new scripts are on their way. Father, the second part of the Mother movie is nearing the finishing line and we are itching to get going on that. Tom White is handling writing duties again and is turning in a longer script than the last one.

Adam’s Animation

Adam sent us a still of some of the recent work. I’m sure you’ll agree this is pretty high quality stuff. Now imagine it in glorious thirty frames per second super smooth motion. At that point you’re halfway there in realising how incredible this looks on screen.

A while back Adam approached Donal with a script. Donal commented it would be particularly suited to animation so Adam set off studying and perfecting his animating skills. At the 2011 AClique Premiére we got a nicely put together music video Adam animated. The models and symbolism in the various scenarios contained in the waking and dream worlds was appreciated by the audience. In Adam’s script there are a lot of challenges and this is why AClique do the kind of movies we do. The challenge. Donal has assembled the voice actors and the recording of the parts will commence after we choose who plays what. It will be a fun project and expect to hear a lot more on it very soon.

What’s Next AClique?

December 4th 2011

A few days after the 2011 Premiere we began assembling the schedule for the next slew of AClique movies. Scripts are beginning to fly from the word processing programs with increased frequency and the desire to produce them is intense. What is really exciting is the fact we are going to see a few new AClique directors taking the helm of their own scripts. Some of the stories and the way they are told are very imaginative. New camera operators are stepping up to take the visuals by the scruff of the neck and present new perspectives on established techniques. The results are going to be very interesting. Included in this expression we will see further progress in the technical aspects of our production. Eighty percent of our music is self composed and the addition of professional musicians with decades of experience will elevate the production values still further.

There will be a re-screening, possibly re-screenings of the 2011 Premiére program. We have locations while we ourselves await times we are aiming to show the movies in their original HD versions. Many were disappointed they missed the event so we won’t let you down by neglecting to provide at least some of the excitement seeing locally produced movies on a big screen. Seeing them in HD will be reason enough for some who have already seen the movies to see them again.

We also have some pretty cool news that will have to remain secret until we are closer to the time. A big step for all of us at AClique while we can assure everyone it is a step up not off.

The Third Premiére

November 30th 2011

The 2011 AClique Premiére has been and gone. Time flies eh? It went very well and thanks to all who attended. Few photos here for you to look at. Thanks to Patricia and Natalia for photographing the event. There are many more and they will be shown on a new page on the site dedicated to the three premiéres and the subsequent events. So for now, these will do and we can tell you that we’ve already started on the next batch of movies. We’re trying a few more genres and styles of movie making so it will be a lot of fun.

Premiére

November 12th 2011

Been a very busy time for us over the last few weeks. Shooting, assembling, editing and formatting eight movies. Donal as been overseeing the process and keeping people up to speed with what is required for the screening. There has been colour grading, FX compositing, music composition, whip cracking, neck breaking and head banging. The posters and tickets were printed a couple of weeks ago. As it stands demand far exceeds the number of seats we have in the cinema, however, don’t be disappointed as we already have three slightly smaller screens, only slightly, lined up for re-screenings.

Jason has been busy with PR work, having got RED FM’s Victor Barry to, along with a large image of our poster, mention the event on his well read blog. Jason is also in talks with some local high profile musicians regards shooting music videos for them.

Warren did a great job on editing “EASILY DONE”. The movie has a rather cool soundtrack that compliments the tone of the movie perfectly. Did I mention he created the music himself? Reading back over what I’ve written I obviously did not. Really fun movie with some strong performances.

Katrina also commissioned some original music for her debut movie “I WANNA SAY”. We were surprised by her cool choice of music. Katrina even employed the services of a sound engineer to design the final audio mix. Good man Joe.

Adam gave us the title to his movie, “A FOOT IN THE MOUTH”. All his own work with the music being the exception. In a reverse process to the other movies the visuals in this were created completely based on the music. I’m looking forward to see this visual masterpiece on the big screen.

Cian has his trilogy of short movies ready. This is quite a feat considering he is still up to his neck in college work. “ROCK PAPER SCISSORS” is an effects laden short full of laughs. He also has one of his classic movies to show.

“MOTHER” is a very competent piece of movie making. Written by Tom White, the movie has some incredible improv from the actors. This movie is a personal favourite with AClique’s Katrina, Darragh, Jason, Kevin, Mike, Tom, Will and Donal playing the parts.

“FACADE” & “SHORT STORY” are looking good too however Donal has a surprise lined up that is as nuts as a squirrels diet in winter.

All the movies are complete. Not much left to say except see you at the Premiére. You may want to bring a pen and paper to get some autographs. The performers in these movies are certainly stars on the ascendency.

The Premiére is on November 20th, 11.30am in The Gate Cinema, North Main Street, Cork. Please be there by 11.15am at the latest as there are a lot of movies to screen so time is tight.

Latest News

October 8th 2011

We spent last Saturday October the first shooting Facade in KIllarney. Shane O’Brien & Darragh Keating performed brilliantly in a very intense story. Directed by Donal this film sees AClique turn in a heavy dramatic movie. The shoot went incredibly smoothly thanks to the efforts made by the cast & crew. Jason co-produced and Kevin script supervised while all helped out with setting up the location. Thanks to Keith for sourcing & Tom for the location. The movie didn’t take long to edit and was ready on Monday.

Easily Done has a rough cut already. Warren has a longer movie with a running time over thirty minutes. Continuing the story of Webster, a well to do teacher just trying to fit in, the movie has so many laughs it will be the highlight of the Premiére Day.

Adam has completed a brilliant piece of movie making. I’m not going to say any more as the surprise viewing it on the day will be ruined. It is truly a brilliant piece.

Katrina Foley sat down with Donal during the week and assembled a completely new cut of her movie I Wanna Say. The initial edit involving all the laborious cataloguing of clips was done by Co-Producer Simon Edwards but he could not complete a final cut due to work commitments. A co production between Katrina’s Wandering Star Productions and AClique Productions making the movie, written & directed by Katrina has Lochlainn McKenna & Jo Linehan as the leads. This is Katrina’s directorial debut and is a very sure footed movie. Right now she is overseeing the composition of the original soundtrack.

Jason is putting the final touches to Mother, written by Tom White. The movie had Jason & Kevin on camera and the lads did a great job capturing the atmosphere on a bloody good movie. Donal is doing the music and sound design on the movie and Cian Murphy is doing the FX including a rather nice title sequence. On the Premiére Day expect to see more of Cian’s work.

“Easily Done” currently shooting

AClique were on deck to shoot Warren Bridgeman’s sequel to EASILY LED. Early Sunday 18th September and Monday the 19th had us shoot the major parts of the movie. Warren directs and stars in this self written tale. Cian Murphy and Kevin O’Sullivan doubling up as camera assistant are on sound with Michael O’Callaghan doing script supervision/1st AD. Special thanks to Natalia Marzec who impressed us with some great behind the scenes stills for the movie. There are many so for now take a look at these.

Jason is currently editing Tom White’s MOTHER movie. Having only seen a brief cut of the movie so far I can report that it is shaping up very well. A creepy and funny movie featuring many of the AClique team in starring roles.

News on the event when we screen these movies is coming very very soon.

New Movie “Mother”

September 4th 2011

Tom White took the helm of the latest AClique movie in what is a change of direction for us and a nicely put together shoot. We had a lot of fun making this and there is no doubt as to the comedy in it raising a laugh or two with the audience afterwards. The movie has a good story, sex, blood, violence, action and a Renault Megane. Key ingredients in making a good movie. No details on the storyline yet so this image will do for now. A big thank you to all involved and be sure to check the news here again soon for more on the upcoming movies we have on the way.

New Story title “SHORT STORY”

August 29th 2011a

The latest chapter in the Story series has had it’s title revealed. SHORT STORY sees Jack McGarnigle engage in AClique’s most stylised onscreen onslaught to date. Featuring the promised return to hand to hand combat  the fans, we have few but some, asked to see in the subsequent movies. The film boasts the fastest shoot time to date with some nice cinematography and a cool edgy soundtrack harking back to the earliest part of the series. The short movie is only as long as the story is. This is the whole concept set out with the STORY series to begin with. The film deals with an aspect of Jack’s emerging personality on the road to becoming a bona fide action movie icon. It’s kinda funny too.

“The guys working on this are brilliant.” said Donal, who returns to the helm again. “ I was particularly impressed by the leap in Jason’s physicality, taking punches and delivering kicks in what was the hottest day in August. Wait til you see his new moves. He is one guy who understands acting in the action. Will Browne revealed his acrobatic abilities and martial prowess in complex sequences that he made look easy. Things like distance and timing are often neglected in favour of sky high leg lifts but this is martial arts we’re talking not ballet. We got a new performer onscreen too and the welcome return of one of the COP STORY favourites. It is a strong swimmer this movie.” Warren Bridgeman, Brian O’Shea, Cian Murphy and Kevin O’Sullivan crewed the production team in the hot sun and displayed lovely tanned skin popular in this area of the globe.

The movie is to be part of another showcase of what the AClique boys have been up to. Five more movies are joining it, Easily Done, Facade, Mother, Nothing Personal and Aces Under. More news on when that date is closer to the time.

Preview Audience Response

August 14th 2011

On Thursday a select group of highly discerning people performed audience duty to the latest STORY movie. A test screening in a top secret facility in Bantry, Co.Cork.  Donal conducted the test and reported back on it. He had this to say. “The audience comprised my thirteen & ten year old nephew accompanied by their six year old sister. The movie was a very rough cut featuring a scratchy soundtrack, no sound design and none of the opening and closing scenes. The guys told me they appreciated the camera work and liked the action, using the room to recreate the fight choreography afterwards. They laughed a lot and the questions they asked one another at the end was a good indicator they felt it worthy to discuss. Ambiguity is sometimes a great thing to incite debate, having a movie stir up conversation means the movie may live a little longer than the open and shut nature of trends and populist material in the media. Then again, I gave them some nice fruit salad to watch it so perhaps that swayed them. In fact, most of the questions they asked involved the repeated request for bigger bowls next time. All in all, a good screening with a very honest group.”

Where We At?

August 8th 2011

Good question. Things have been simmering lately. August is always a month of ongoing tests in patience, for the boys at AClique anyway. So right now we are turning no tape shooting movies. Reason why? Jason is on a well deserved holiday with Julie. After healthy doses of sun, sea, sand, swimming and relaxation he’ll be back to us fully recharged and rearing to go. We need to shoot the conclusion to the NEW STORY movie we are making and wouldn’t you know Jason is Jack, expecting to emulate Terry Gilliam’s turn in The Imaginarium Of Doctor Parnassus by replacing his lead actor with three other actors isn’t an option. Like we’ve said, Jason is Jack, so we’ll wait the week for his return. This lull in production gives ample time to look into the other sides to film making. Been writing a lot and storyboarding. Location hunting and talent spotting. We work hard on our movies, shoot them fast and sometimes faster so it is obviously the collective enthusiasm driving us and having that positive energy gets things done. Cian is on holiday in Amsterdam. We may send out a search party.

Kev has been hard at work on the Making of DANCE STORY documentary. We got a look at a half finished cut and it is excellent. Next week will see us doing the voice overs and cast & crew interviews. It has been a lot of fun and a lot of work with having this documenting the process will be a good indicator of what was involved.

DICK STORY will be shot soon as we can. As will the follow up GAMBLING STORY. We got a lot of other movies that want to get made before those. We’re being patient. It is a virtue we’re told.

FACADE. This little movie is going to be shot in the next four weeks. Our darkest movie in tone to date.

Mike is putting together a project that is very ambitious. No title yet but we do know it involves the sensitive life and times of a fallen celebrity. Potentially powerful.

Another movie, NOTHING PERSONAL is being prepped and rehearsed during the week while Jason is away. Keep pushing the wheel of Dharma around, no rest for the wicked. Back to the movie. This was put together after a discussion between actor and director regards the kind of movie the actor would like to be in. This conversation took place rather late at night however the director who also wrote the script assured the actor the writing would be completed the next day. And it was. The actor liked the script and the ending is still being considered from a choice of three possibilities. Expect a fifteen minute movie filled with laughs and observations at how little things have changed and how much things have changed.

We have the location for DISPOSED sorted too. That’s Jason’s movie. Good script. Currently fine tuning it and starting a third draft. This movie has a few challenges so we are looking forward to shooting this.

Warren has finished EASILY DONE. This script is quite long containing Warren’s unique turn of phrase in the dialogue. This will be a great shoot as there are numerous actors and the script is very funny. It is a follow up movie to EASILY LED. We’re big fans of Warren’s writing and acting so our excitement at this movie is completely understandable. We all want to be in it. Wonder what kind of chocolates Warren prefers in a bribe?

That is it for now. Any other news will be on the assorted Blogs and Super News pages so have a look. You’ll never know what you’ll find.

The Next Movie(s)

August 1st 2011

We shot a really cool scene recently for the next part of the COP STORY series. Jason, Warren, Kevin, Cian and Dónal Travelled to a far off place to shoot a very hot part of the movie. Man, Friday was really hot. We all got sunburn. Lovely tanned members of AClique maybe seen walking the streets very soon. Or maybe not. Life is tricky ya know? We cannot promise much such is the fickle nature of reality, haha, however we can promise a movie quite different from Dance Story and Cop Story. It is tempting to spill the beans on the movie and what is involved so rest assured it will be released really soon. The music and sound fx were completed las week and one scene remains to be shot. The poster is revealing something? We also are getting ready to shoot the upcoming movies DISPOSED, EASILY LED, FACADE and NOTHING PERSONAL. There is a very special movie due up amidst those, a first for us at AClique. Stay tuned. Until then, stare at this poster for a while please.

Storyboards For New Story Complete

July 27th 2011

As the headline suggests the storyboards are just finished with the ink drying as I type. There are many, as in one hundred and twenty pretty nicely planned shots put together and the drawing captures some, if not all of the action in the next movie. As promised it sees a return to the fight style of the original with a few modifications to keep it fresh and exciting. Some new actors this time around and a really nice location that will be used in future AClique movies. Of course it is funny. More news as we get it and keep checking  back for more updates. Don’t forget you can contact us at

We already have a few people enquiring about joining us for some fun movie making and everybody is welcome.

What’s the story with NEW STORY?

July 24th 2011

Script has been printed and storyboards commenced for the next AClique movie to be part of the COP STORY series. Cast and crew are ready as ever to take the movie to the next level of AClique style. Jack is back to take us on an adventure to a place the COP STORY series hasn’t been before. As much as we would like to hop on a plan and shoot in some far off exotic location we find the best locations within our reach right at our doorsteps. The new location will feature prominently in future AClique movies so no doubt it will be as much of a star in the movies as the cast are. Don’t forget you may contact us at the AClique email on the bottom of the welcome page. Back to NEW STORY, images soon but for now this is an image from DANCE STORY.

WEBsite Tweaked

July 22nd 2011

Today we spent a few hours with Dave Norris building a more content rich website. The rest of the AClique team can post their contributions to the website much easier than before. So please be sure to check out the various Blogs and also the new SUPER NEWS section that promises to be filled with the best and most exciting news from around the globe. Maybe even some stuff from off the globe too.

The music and sound design has already begun for the next chapter in the COP STORY series. Not much to say apart from it is very influenced by seventies hard rock, Ennio Morricone and Lalo Schifrin. Location scouting for the movie commences Saturday 23rd July. All going well with costumes and rehearsals sorted in the next few days and the movie maybe complete before the summer ends.

The next part of Cop Story/Dance Story is being shot very soon. One can only say expect a movie as different from Dance Story as Cop Story was to Dance Story. Mouth full eh? Once again writing duties fall to Donal and this time he promises a return to the lighter tone of the original movie. While sharing elements and the narrative nature used in the second movie, one can be assured this time the action will be more powerful.
